Stay on top of your GTM setup with a simple spreadsheet that tracks every tag, trigger, and variable. Perfect for tidy, reliable analytics.
What's in this template
Pre-built GTM tag and trigger configurations for the most common event tracking setups - form submissions, button clicks, phone number clicks, scroll depth, video plays, and file downloads. Copy the configuration specs into your GTM container without having to build from scratch.
The events worth tracking vs. the events that create noise
Track what connects to business outcomes. Form submissions, phone clicks, email clicks, purchase completions - these are conversion-adjacent events worth tracking as conversions or micro-conversions. Scroll depth, time on page, and hover events are behavioural signals useful for UX analysis but shouldn't be marked as conversions.
The number of events in your GA4 property isn't a measure of tracking sophistication. A property with 8 well-defined, accurately firing events is more useful than one with 40 events where half are mislabelled or misfiring. Track less, track accurately.
